Sustainability: Protecting And Preserving Our Resources

The William Charles organization was committed to preserving and protecting the environment long before it was considered the right thing to do.

We constructed a gas-to-energy plant at Winnebago Landfill that generates enough electricity to power 10 percent of the homes in the City of Rockford. From using reclaimed oil to heat buildings and fire asphalt plants, to building and maintaining hundreds of acres of wetlands and open spaces, we are engaged in a wide variety of green activities.

As we move into the future, the William Charles organization continues to embrace our role of good stewardship throughout our Construction Management and Real Estate Development business units.

We use recapped tires; recycle vehicle and equipment filters; and annually recycle approximately 50,000 tons of asphalt, saving approximately 2,400 gallons of oil. We have converted dozens of commercial and industrial brown fields into productive reuse.

William Charles is LEEDS certified by the Green Building Council for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design.

With over a century of quality work behind our name, William Charles is still guided by the pursuit of excellence and the “Do it right the first time” work ethic that has been at the cornerstone of our business philosophy since 1892. Our attention to the customer and to the highest safety standards are at the very heart of all we do.
